St Lawrence Folk Club, Cambridge, 1973.

The first thing I joined in Cambridge was the University Folk Club, which I ended up helping to run by my last year. All my performing skills came from this testing-ground.

I joined at the tail end of the folk boom when we regularly had 200 packed into the Red Cow, to hear the best of the nation's folk artists and some pretty good local talent, too. Numbers had tailed off by the time this photo was taken of me playing Panton Street Blues.
